Get Your Plan On!

Success is not an accident; it is a purposeful and planned event that you have direct control over. So many people (myself included) are content to sit back and wait for it to happen instead of going out there and making it happen, which is plain stupid! So get your plan on!

I have just finished planning the next year, as well as 3, 5 and 10 years. 2012 is going to be massive and I don’t want to miss out by not being ready, sitting back hoping for the best. As the saying goes life is what YOU make it. However success is more than making a plan, it is taking action, doing something, usually everyday, to move you to achieving the goals you’ve set.

For example, I have a plan to lose weight in 2012 and it’s precise. I have a set weight I want to achieve, a method to achieve it, walking and eating better etc, and I will monitor my progress as the year goes on, I even will ask a couple of friends to constantly check up on me to see how I’m going and keep me accountable. You see, a good plan is not just some random, undefined idea, it is S.M.A.R.T.

S.M.A.R.T stands for;

SpecificKnowing exactly what you want to do.

Measurable – Know where you start, where you finish and how you get there.

Attainable – Make sure you can reach your goals, either in the time you have allocated or in skill, I will never play for the Hawthorn Hawks

Relevant – Why would you set a goal to run from Sydney to Melbourne if you hate running?

Timely – Set a timeline! I will start at X time and reach my target by Z time, but be realistic.
