Use Some Common Cents And Your Dollars Will Look After Themselves

Money, everyone wants it but most people have no idea what to do with it except to spend it but is “spending” the point of money or is it something more?

Money is a tool, something to be used to achieve a goal, just like a hammer is the tool of choice when the goal is hammering a nail but you will need money (or something of value besides money but that is for another blog). For example, your goal is to nail together two pieces of wood; what do you do? Viciously assault some nails with a $20 note?! No, of course not, you buy a hammer, which for arguments sake costs $20, and then use that hammer to bang away at those nails, resulting in the achievement of your ultimate goal.

Now lets have a closer look at this hammer situation. We know what the goal is, we have the materials required except for the hammer and we know we can buy the hammer for $20 but is this best use of the $20 we have to achieve our ultimate goal? What other options are there have available to us? Is there someone you know with a hammer that is prepared to hire out their hammer to you, for say $5, alternately are they willing to do the job for you for $7.50, or is there even a possibility that you have a different tool or skill that you can exchange with them to do the job?

Assume that you have all these options available to you, now you have to consider the long term implications of your immediate hammer crisis! Is this likely to be the only time you will need a hammer? Could you become the person that has a hammer for hire in town thus making more money for an investment of $20. Maybe you need to use a hammer on a regular basis but its not the best use of your time or you just don’t like using hammers, therefore it would be better to hire someone with a hammer when the need arises.

Once you have thought all these different options through then you can decide how best to use the $20, not spend, spending is too limited, but use the money. And you thought you were just going to buy a hammer …

Who Are We?

Recently I looked into making a video for promotional purposes, Youtube, Facebook and the like and I was asked “what makes you different, what makes you, well, you?” The obvious answers sprang to mind; “we are a Team of individuals working together yada yada yada” and “we are a professional company offering professional services etc” and the all time classic “we promise we are elite at what we do, and so forth”. However, when I gave it deeper consideration I realised the answer is so much deeper than that.

Paper PhotoWe do strive to be all these things but we are more, I and my Team are more than mere cliches. So how do I describe something, that in my mind and heart, seems so simple, so straightforward? To know who Cleaning Excellence are we first need to know what we do, so what do we do? If you answered cleaning you would only be partly correct, we do much more than that. We are time givers, we give you time you would have spent cleaning back so that you can use it wisely, with family and friends, let face it why would you want to scrub your toilet while everyone else was outside enjoying a BBQ?! We also give piece of mind; when we clean for you, whether in your house or business, it is one less thing you have to worry about. And we offer you professionalism, which is my favourite.

Everything we do is deliberate from the uniforms we wear, to our equipment or the way we send out invoices. We study how to deliver our services in the best possible way, we routinely investigate our processes to see if they’re adding value to our clients or making life more complicated. I believe, and have stated publicly before, that running a successful cleaning company is 70% running a successful business and 30% cleaning. What do I mean by this; I mean that anyone can scrub a toilet but delivering a complete service which encompasses areas such as admin, billing, how we monitor the work the Team is doing, the quoting process, the equipment we use, how we handle complaints, the security we offer from having the key to your property to keeping your valuables safe, the way we look and dress, the fact we show up when we say we will show up and handling special requests is something that only a few can do.

So who are we? We are a bunch of people committed to being the best we can be, not perfect, but excellent …

I Love My Team

I love my Team! If you invest in your Team, believe in them, encourage, support and guide your Team they will do extraordinary things and your clients reap the rewards. Anyone can do a halfhearted job cleaning your toilet, Cleaning Excellence Team Members clean your toilet professionally because they are treated like professionals.
The Team is the most important part of any business and mine is no different. If you only pay them the minimum amount required, or less, they will only do the minimum amount required, or less. You have to go beyond that by creating an environment that is a joy to work in. I don’t just mean more money, although that is a part of it, I mean praise, respect, training, help, treating them like champions and recognition.

Cleaning Excellence is a Team, thanks guys!

Don’t Be A Dumbarse …

Last year I set a goal of reading 52 books, which I reached on New Years Eve. Mainly I read business books on such topics as customers service, sales, marketing, etc but also biographies about truly inspirational people that achieve despite the odds.

What does this mean to my everyday life in 2012? Over 29% growth in the first quarter, two deals of a ‘lifetime’ with another one almost completed, a pay rise, joy at the success and promise of bigger and better things to come during the rest of the year. And if you’re wondering what all this mean to my reading I’ve set myself a goal of 62 this year!Image

It’s simple, really simple, if you want to be successful find ways to study what you want to succeed in, whether it’s business, family, friendship, or anything you can think. Learn, get an education, read a book, listen to a lecture, maybe even read a blog …

Make Yourself Feel Good

January 4, 2012 Leave a comment

Say these words to yourself.

Books! I read books, I always have and I think I always will. Education! As I get older I appreciate what a good education, whether formal or self-education, can do for you. With this in mind at the end of 2010 I set myself the ambitious goal of reading 52 by the end of 2011. At approximately 1.30pm on the 31st December 2011 I successfully completed this goal! I can not overstate how good that felt. I had set myself a challenging goal that required focus, diligence and dedication and I achieved.

There are many blogs, articles, books, tapes, CD‘s, DVD‘s and seminars out there on the importance of goal setting and being disciplined enough to see your goal through to the end. Most of them , if not all, valid points on the reasons why this is a great idea, showing statistics on how successful people are goal setters. I only have one point to add to all of the research and years of study that the various experts have already shared. Success, in anything area of your life, makes you smile …

Set yourself up to feel good, right now! Sit down with a pen and paper and write the 10 things you would like to do over the next year. Pick the 4 that you have the most reasonable chance of completing, or excite you the most. Once you have picked your 4 goals for this year write a sentence or two for each of the following headings for each goal.

1. What? What is the goal? What do you want to do?

2. Why? Why you want to achieve this goal, remember your ‘why’ has to be exciting enough that you will do what it takes to achieve the goal.

3. Plan. How exactly are you going to achieve this goal?

All you need to do now is work the plan every day or week for the rest of the year and feel amazing because

Get Your Plan On!

December 18, 2011 6 comments

Success is not an accident; it is a purposeful and planned event that you have direct control over. So many people (myself included) are content to sit back and wait for it to happen instead of going out there and making it happen, which is plain stupid! So get your plan on!

I have just finished planning the next year, as well as 3, 5 and 10 years. 2012 is going to be massive and I don’t want to miss out by not being ready, sitting back hoping for the best. As the saying goes life is what YOU make it. However success is more than making a plan, it is taking action, doing something, usually everyday, to move you to achieving the goals you’ve set.

For example, I have a plan to lose weight in 2012 and it’s precise. I have a set weight I want to achieve, a method to achieve it, walking and eating better etc, and I will monitor my progress as the year goes on, I even will ask a couple of friends to constantly check up on me to see how I’m going and keep me accountable. You see, a good plan is not just some random, undefined idea, it is S.M.A.R.T.

S.M.A.R.T stands for;

SpecificKnowing exactly what you want to do.

Measurable – Know where you start, where you finish and how you get there.

Attainable – Make sure you can reach your goals, either in the time you have allocated or in skill, I will never play for the Hawthorn Hawks

Relevant – Why would you set a goal to run from Sydney to Melbourne if you hate running?

Timely – Set a timeline! I will start at X time and reach my target by Z time, but be realistic.

Have a great 2012 with many successes and joys!

You Make It Happen!

Do you ever find yourself saying ‘I wish the government would do this or that’, or ‘if only my parents’, ‘or one day when the right circumstances come about I’ll get what I want, do what I want and then I’ll be happy’? You, like most people, probably answered yes but the problem with those statements is that none of those people or situations control you or your decisions. If you want to be healthier get up and go for a walk, if you want to have better friends go out and be the best friend you can, if you want to succeed in business read a book or a blog. Do something about it NOW!

Life is about change, the seasons change, we change (getting old is a fact), other people change, fashion changes, expectations change, trends, gadgets, places change. Knowing this it then becomes our responsibility to create the change we want to see in our little part of the world. Even if your plan is to get rich by winning the Lotto, not a strategy I suggest, you still have to do something about it, like buying the ticket.

The best thing I can suggest is to continually get an education, whether that is a formal education like university, listening to people that have achieved success already in the field you’re interested or reading a book, articles, industry magazines’. I like to cook but I always feel I can do it better; this is where Jamie Oliver comes in! I enjoy watching his shows; I even have a couple of his cookbooks. Why? Because he is very good at cooking and has made a huge success out of being a chef and so I listen to him. Of course if I wanted to be a serious chef I would go to a school for chefs but I only want to cook for my friends and family, not for an adoring public.

So what are you waiting for, get up now, take action and start to make your life better and enrich yourself.
